Speaking of the devil! Dr. Felton personally called me on Monday to notify me that my custom orthotics were ready. For those of you who don’t know (I’ve been getting lots of inquiries), orthotics are inserts that go inside your shoes. They add support and gently reposition the heel, arch, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and bones in the feet. Thus, alleviating any pain caused from pronating or poor shock absorption, (i.e. shin splints).

I have to break into my custom orthotics. I wore them for a few hours today. Tomorrow I’ll wear them for a few more hours during my workout. Gradually increasing the time I wear them and the activity level. The doc said to wear the over the-counter orthotics for Saturday’s 9 mile run. Next week I’ll begin wearing the custom orthotics for shorter runs and should be able to wear them for the following Saturday. I still have to wear my calf supports, though =( ….them things are itchy, hot and not cute! I follow up with Dr. Felton in 3 weeks. At that time, we will discuss if the orthotics are effective. He can add extra support or remove any, need be….and he’ll determine if I can come off the calf supports. (Cross your fingers)
